Marantz

Marantz

Marantz was founded in 1953 by Saul Marantz, who designed and built the company's first audio product in his home in Kew Gardens, Queens, New York City. Driven by a passion for faithful music reproduction, Saul Marantz set out to create preamplifiers and amplifiers that prioritised sonic accuracy above all else, establishing a philosophy that would define the brand for decades.

The company changed hands several times over the following decades, passing through Superscope in 1964, Philips in 1980, and eventually to Marantz Japan Inc. in 2001. A merger with Denon created D&M Holdings in 2002, and manufacturing was consolidated at the Shirakawa Audio Works facility in Japan, which has remained Marantz's manufacturing home ever since. Sound United acquired the business in 2017, and in 2025 Marantz became part of Harman, a Samsung subsidiary.

Today Marantz draws on over 70 years of hi-fi design heritage to produce a range of amplifiers, receivers, CD players, and network audio components. The brand positions itself around the pursuit of musical sound, combining artisanal craftsmanship with a design language that traces its roots back to its origins in New York.
