The Marantz AMP 10 sits at the summit of the CINEMA Series power amplifier range, representing the brand's flagship expression of multi-channel amplification. Engineered to deliver 200W per channel across 16 discrete channels, it provides the amplification headroom required by the most demanding Dolby Atmos and immersive audio configurations. Every AMP 10 is hand-crafted at the Shirakawa Audio Works facility in Japan, where Marantz has concentrated its premium manufacturing since the early 2000s.
Amplification Design
The AMP 10 combines two core technologies: custom Class D switching amplifiers developed specifically for this model, and Marantz's proprietary HDAM-SA2 (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module) circuitry. The HDAM-SA2 module forms the high-speed preamplifier stage, preserving fine musical detail from HD audio sources and ensuring the power amplifier section receives a clean, well-defined signal. The switching power amplifier topology delivers high power output with very low distortion across the full frequency range, maintaining consistent performance regardless of speaker impedance variations.
Inputs and Connectivity
Each of the 16 channels is equipped with both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs, selectable via a dedicated switch on the rear panel. This dual-input provision allows direct connection to any preamplifier or AV processor, with the balanced option offering rejection of common-mode interference over long cable runs. The amplifier is designed to partner with Marantz's own AV 10 or AV 30 preamplifiers via an included AMP control cable, which synchronises power on/off and display brightness across both units using ground-floating technology to prevent earth loop issues.
Output Modes
A rear-panel selector switch enables three output configurations: Normal stereo, Bi-Amp, and BTL (Bridge-Tied Load) operation. In Normal and Bi-Amp modes the amplifier delivers 200W per channel into 8 ohms, or 400W per channel into 4 ohms. In BTL mode two channels are bridged to drive a single speaker, raising the output to 400W into 8 ohms. Bi-Amp operation assigns separate amplifier channels to a speaker's bass and treble sections, eliminating inter-driver interference. Speaker terminals are the high-quality SPKT-1+ type, and the chassis is copper-plated throughout.
Control and Integration
The AMP 10 accommodates professional installation environments with RS-232C serial control, DC trigger input and output (1 each), a 12V DC trigger for third-party device integration, and an IR flasher input for infrared repeater systems. There is no network streaming capability; the unit is a pure power amplification stage. An auto standby function engages after 15 minutes without an input signal, drawing just 0.2W in standby. The front panel carries Marantz's iconic porthole level meter, a power button, a METER ON/OFF button, and a DIMMER button for adjusting panel illumination brightness.
Design and Build
The AMP 10 reflects Marantz's CINEMA Series design language: a wide-format black aluminium front panel flanked by the brand's distinctive wave-pattern side panels, with gold-accented trim around the porthole meter. Dimensions are 442 x 488 x 188 mm (W x D x H) and the unit weighs 19.8 kg, reflecting the substantial toroidal transformers and heat-sink assemblies required to support 16 channels of 200W amplification.
