The CD 70 is the new entry point to Marantz's disc-player range, succeeding the multi-award-winning CD6007 and sitting beneath the CD 60, CD 50n and SACD 30n in the current line-up. It pairs decades of Marantz disc-player engineering with the brand's latest design language, and is offered here in a Silver Gold finish.
Enhanced Digital Performance
At the heart of the CD 70 is an upgraded ES9020Q DAC, a step up from the ES9010K2M used in its predecessor, supported by a new master clock design that reduces jitter for more precise digital timing. Marantz's HDAM-SA2 discrete amplifier modules handle the analogue stages, while a symmetric circuit layout keeps signal paths consistent between channels. The power supply is built around a toroidal transformer with separate rectifier circuits for the analogue and digital sections to lower noise, and a choice of two selectable digital filters lets you fine-tune playback to taste. Both the digital outputs and the display can also be switched off entirely in pursuit of the cleanest possible signal path.
Disc and USB Playback
The CD 70 plays CD, CD-R and CD-RW discs, including discs carrying MP3 and WMA files. A front-panel USB-A input extends playback beyond the disc tray: connect a USB storage device and the player handles high-resolution files in WAV, FLAC, ALAC, AIFF and DSD formats. Playback features include a 25-track programme mode, repeat and random play, all controlled from the front panel or the supplied RC006PMCD remote control.
Dedicated Headphone Amplifier
A fully discrete headphone amplifier built with HDAM-SA2 circuitry feeds the front-panel 6.3mm headphone socket, complete with its own volume control knob and adjustable gain settings accessed through the player's menus, so personal listening receives the same care as the main outputs.
Connections
Around the back sits a gold-plated stereo RCA analogue output alongside optical and coaxial digital outputs, allowing the CD 70 to serve as a disc transport into an outboard DAC as well as a standalone player. Remote control in and out connections allow integration with other Marantz components.
Build and Design
The chassis carries Marantz's current design language, with a metal front panel, textured surfaces flanking the central fascia and a VFD display with dimmer and off settings. An additional metal plate strengthens the chassis, while auto power off and 0.3 W standby consumption keep running costs low. The CD 70 measures 442 x 351 x 109 mm, weighs 6.5 kg and is also available in a Black finish.
