The Ortofon 2MR Bronze sits in the upper tier of the 2MR series, which adapts the engine and stylus assemblies of the popular 2M moving magnet range to a narrow, low-profile housing intended for Rega-style tonearms. The Bronze model carries forward the 2M Bronze stylus and engine package, placing it above the entry Red and Blue models and below the flagship Black.
R-Mount Housing
The 2MR housing has been specifically designed for turntables and tonearms with low-form-factor cartridge requirements, such as those produced by Rega. Its narrow body integrates without modifications or spacers beneath the tonearm, allowing fitment using just two screws. This makes installation noticeably simpler on Rega and similar arms compared to a standard half-inch mount.
Nude Fine Line Stylus and Silver-Plated Coils
The 2MR Bronze carries a nude Fine Line diamond on an aluminium cantilever, the same stylus profile fitted to the standard 2M Bronze. The Fine Line geometry sits deeper in the groove than spherical or elliptical tips and tracks high-frequency information with reduced distortion. Internal coils are wound from silver-plated OFC wire, contributing to the model's open and detailed presentation. Output voltage is 5 mV at 1 kHz, 5 cm/sec, suitable for any standard MM phono input.
Tracking and Compatibility
Ortofon recommend a tracking force of 1.5 g. Dynamic lateral compliance is rated at 20 µm/mN, suiting the medium-mass tonearms typical of Rega and comparable decks. Recommended load capacitance is 150 to 300 pF, in line with the standard 2M series. The replacement stylus is the Stylus 2M Bronze, which is interchangeable with the rest of the 2M Bronze family.
