Roksan
Roksan was founded on 9 August 1985 by Tufan Hashemi and Touraj Moghaddam, both graduates of London universities including Imperial College London and Queen Mary College. Established in London, the company takes its name from Roxana, daughter of the Persian King Darius III, reflecting the founders' Persian heritage — a connection that also runs through the naming of many products after Persian cities and historical figures.
The brand launched with the Xerxes turntable, a belt-drive design that departed from the sprung sub-chassis conventions of the time. Moghaddam's engineering philosophy centred on lateral rigidity and the reduction of groove-drag. In 1986, Roksan introduced the Darius loudspeaker, the first to mechanically isolate tweeters from bass units using springs. Through the 1990s the brand expanded into electronics, developing integrated amplifiers, CD players, and source components alongside its analogue heritage.
In 1996, Roksan was acquired by Verity plc; following Verity's demerger, Hashemi and Moghaddam reacquired the company. Monitor Audio acquired Roksan in November 2016, and the brand now operates from Monitor Audio's headquarters in Rayleigh, Essex. Today Roksan produces turntables, loudspeakers, integrated amplifiers, streaming components, and home cinema systems, combining precision engineering with support for contemporary digital and multi-room audio platforms.
