Engineering Without Compromise
The Pro-Ject T1 Evo is an entry-level turntable that refuses to make the usual cost-cutting trade-offs. At its core is a precision CNC-machined wooden plinth constructed with no plastic parts and no hollow spaces — a deliberate design choice to eliminate the chassis resonance that afflicts lighter, cheaper alternatives. The plinth carries a heavy 8mm blasted-glass platter that is inherently zero-resonance, mounted on an ultra-precise main bearing with a tolerance of 0.001 mm, a hardened stainless steel axle, and a brass bushing. This combination provides an exceptionally stable and quiet rotational platform.
One-Piece Tonearm Design
The 8.6" tonearm is a complete, one-piece aluminium construction — integrated headshell and all. Pro-Ject's decision to avoid a detachable or screwed-on headshell is an engineering principle, not a convenience: every joint and interface in a tonearm assembly is a potential vibration node. By eliminating the connection, the T1 Evo achieves a more rigid, resonance-free signal path from stylus tip to cartridge output. Low-friction bearings throughout the arm pivot ensure accuracy and repeatability in stylus tracking. The tonearm arrives pre-adjusted from the factory, with tracking force set to 17.5 mN.
Ortofon OM 10 Cartridge — Ready to Play
The T1 Evo ships with an Ortofon OM 10 Moving Magnet cartridge fitted and aligned at the factory. The OM 10 uses an elliptical diamond stylus that traces the groove wall with greater contact precision than a spherical tip, recovering more detail from both sides of the groove and maintaining lower levels of distortion at the end of the record side. The pre-adjusted setup means the T1 Evo is ready to use straight from the box — no cartridge alignment protractor, no stylus force gauge required.
Belt Drive and Electronic Speed Change
An electronically controlled motor drives a belt attached to a redesigned sub-platter, ensuring smooth, consistent rotation at both 33 and 45 rpm. Switching between speeds is handled electronically — no belt repositioning required. Speed variance is a tight 0.7% at 33 rpm and 0.6% at 45 rpm, with wow and flutter of 0.25% and 0.23% respectively — figures that compare well above the T1 Evo's price class.
Connections and Included Accessories
Output is via standard RCA connectors. The T1 Evo includes a high-quality semi-symmetrical, low-capacitance phono/line RCA cable, purpose-designed by Pro-Ject specifically for turntable use rather than adapted from general-purpose interconnects. A dustcover, felt mat, and power supply are also included. As a standard model without a built-in phono stage, a separate phono preamplifier or an amplifier with a phono input is required.
Also Available As
The T1 Evo family includes the T1 Evo Phono SB (with built-in phono stage and electronic speed change) and the T1 Evo BT (with Bluetooth streaming output). The Walnut finish is unique to this listing; the turntable is also available in Gloss Black.
