The Stereo Box E is Pro-Ject’s entry-level integrated amplifier, sitting at the heart of the affordable Stereo Box series. Designed to deliver genuine hi-fi performance without compromise, it combines a fully analogue preamplifier with a low-noise power amplifier to produce musical, lifelike sound. Where many amplifiers at this price point prioritise feature lists over audio quality, the Stereo Box E takes the opposite approach, using purpose-designed circuitry to ensure no corners are cut.
Compact Powerhouse
Despite its small footprint, the Stereo Box E delivers 2 x 21W into 8 ohms (or 2 x 40W into 4 ohms), giving it plenty of drive for bookshelf and even modest floor-standing speakers. The heavy-duty steel chassis protects sensitive amplifier electronics from outside interference, while the brushed aluminium front panel and full aluminium control buttons give a premium feel well above the asking price. Standby power consumption is kept to under 0.5W.
Versatile Connectivity
The Stereo Box E offers seven inputs to accommodate virtually any source. These include a phono RCA input with grounding screw for moving-magnet, moving-iron and high-output moving-coil cartridges, a line-level RCA input, a 3.5mm jack input, coaxial and optical S/PDIF digital inputs for a TV or CD transport, and Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX and aptX HD for wireless streaming from a smartphone or tablet. A USB-C output on the rear panel provides clean power to many modern network streamers, removing the need for a separate power supply. A subwoofer RCA output and 6.3mm headphone jack are also included, with the amplifier automatically switching output when headphones are connected.
Part of a Modular System
The Stereo Box E is designed to integrate seamlessly with other products in Pro-Ject’s modular Box range, including the CD Box E and Tuner Box S3 DAB+. Its compact dimensions mean it can sit neatly alongside matching source components for a tidy, coherent system. The amplifier is available in black or silver brushed aluminium to suit different tastes and setups.
