Pro-Ject Pick it PRO Balanced

The Pro-Ject Pick it PRO Balanced is a Moving Magnet phono cartridge developed in collaboration with Ortofon, representing a significant step forward in the Pro-Ject cartridge range. Where a standard MM cartridge shares the shielding pin with the ground connection, the Pick it PRO Balanced separates them entirely, enabling a true balanced signal path from stylus to phono stage. The result is a marked reduction in picked-up noise and interference, giving vinyl playback a quieter, cleaner backdrop that allows subtle musical detail to emerge more clearly.

True Balanced Output

The Pick it PRO Balanced is the first Moving Magnet cartridge of its type to offer a genuinely balanced output. By routing the left and right channel signals through a fully differential path, it eliminates the common-mode noise that affects conventional MM cartridges. To realise the full benefit, the cartridge should be paired with a phono stage featuring balanced inputs, such as the Pro-Ject Phono Box S3 B or Phono Box DS3 B. Connected via Pro-Ject's True Balanced cable range, this combination delivers an exceptionally low-noise signal path for a Moving Magnet design.

Elliptical Diamond Stylus

Fitted with a polished elliptical diamond stylus with a 8/18 micron tip radius, the Pick it PRO Balanced tracks the groove walls accurately and consistently. An elliptical profile contacts more of the groove wall than a spherical tip, recovering higher frequencies with greater precision and reducing groove wear over time. At the recommended tracking force of 2.0 g, the cartridge maintains stable contact across the full audio bandwidth, from 20 Hz to 20 kHz within plus or minus 2 dB.

Made in Europe with Ortofon

Pro-Ject partnered with Ortofon, the Danish cartridge specialist, to manufacture the Pick it PRO range to exacting European standards. The generator assembly, stylus profile, and body tolerances reflect Ortofon's precision manufacturing heritage, while Pro-Ject's listening-room fine-tuning process shaped the final voicing. The outcome is a cartridge with a lively, detailed, and dynamically engaging character at a sensible price point.
