Black Rhodium

Black Rhodium

Black Rhodium was founded in Derby, UK, by Graham Nalty, whose involvement in the hi-fi industry stretches back to January 1975 when he began selling loudspeakers through home demonstration. In 1978, Nalty opened a hi-fi shop in Derby, and his subsequent cable designs had already won multiple awards before the Black Rhodium brand name was formally launched. The name was chosen to signify the exclusive quality of his cable designs.

The company's approach to cable engineering is grounded in physics. Black Rhodium describes its development process as a careful and detailed understanding of the laws of physics, focusing on minimising the forms of electrical distortion that affect musical reproduction. Design techniques employed include deep cryogenic treatment of conductors and connectors, specific cable twisting configurations, vibration stabilisers, and quality control of wire direction. Graham Nalty holds an MA from Cambridge University and has authored a book on the subject.

Black Rhodium manufactures a broad range of cables from its factory in Derby, including loudspeaker cables, audio interconnects, power cables, digital cables, subwoofer cables, and USB cables, as well as connectors and unterminated cable. The product range is organised into named collections spanning entry-level through to premium tiers, alongside the Oyaide range of Japanese audiophile accessories and connectors, for which Black Rhodium serves as exclusive UK distributor.
