The AudioQuest Greyhound sits one step above the Black Lab in AudioQuest's subwoofer cable hierarchy, introducing solid 0.5% Silver-Plated Long-Grain Copper (LGC) conductors where the Black Lab uses unplated LGC. Above the Greyhound, the Irish Red adds a braided jacket, while the Husky moves to 5% Silver conductors and Carbon-Based Multi-Layer Noise-Dissipation. The Greyhound is designed for connecting subwoofers to AV receivers, integrated amplifiers, or preamplifiers via a single RCA connection.
Conductor & Dielectric
The Greyhound uses a solid 0.5% Silver-Plated Long-Grain Copper conductor. Solid conductors eliminate strand-interaction distortion — a source of harshness and smearing that affects stranded designs. The silver plating improves high-frequency signal transfer at a lower cost than fully solid silver construction. Foamed-Polyethylene (PE) insulation is used on both conductors; its high air content absorbs next to no energy, preserving dynamic contrasts and reducing timing errors compared to solid dielectric materials.
Geometry & Shielding
AudioQuest's Hyperlitz Coaxial geometry arranges a perfect circle of eight negative conductors spiralling around a single, larger positive conductor. This creates a cable with a large cross-sectional area that minimises the drawbacks of skin effect while providing low resistance. A Metal-Layer Noise-Dissipation System (NDS) with 100% shield coverage efficiently absorbs and reflects radio-frequency interference before it reaches the equipment's ground plane, preventing ground-plane modulation from degrading low-frequency detail.
Terminations
Cold-Welded, Gold-Plated RCA plugs use a high-pressure connection technique that eliminates solder — a common source of distortion in signal-path joints. The ground shells are stamped rather than machined, prioritising low-distortion materials over cosmetic finish. Optional spade-lug tails are included for chassis grounding, which can resolve hum issues in some system configurations.
Construction
The outer jacket is CL3/FT4-rated PVC, suitable for in-wall installation where local codes permit. This makes the Greyhound a practical choice for custom installations where the subwoofer cable run passes through walls or ceilings.
