The Wharfedale Evo 5.C is the dedicated centre channel speaker in the Evo 5 Series — Wharfedale’s latest mid-range home cinema lineup, sitting above the Diamond 12 Series and below the flagship Elysian range. Sharing the same driver complement and voicing as the Evo 5.1 bookshelf and Evo 5.3 floorstanding speakers, the 5.C delivers consistent tonal character across the front soundstage for seamless dialogue and effects panning.
AMT Tweeter Technology
Developed from Wharfedale’s high-end Elysian project, the Evo 5.C uses a 35 × 70mm AMT (Air Motion Transformer) tweeter. Unlike conventional dome tweeters, the AMT operates via a pleated diaphragm that stretches and contracts to create the sound wave — a dual-direction pistonic motion that achieves lower distortion, faster transients, and improved dispersion. Wharfedale’s Silentweave technology further reduces colouration from the tweeter surround, resulting in a cleaner, more open top end.
Dual Kevlar Woofers
Twin 130mm woven Kevlar cone drivers handle the midrange and bass frequencies. Kevlar’s combination of stiffness and internal damping suits dialogue reproduction particularly well, delivering detailed vocal articulation without the harshness that can come from less controlled cone materials. ResoFrame and ResoSeal dampers — gear-style mechanisms integrated into the driver surrounds — absorb cabinet-borne vibration and reduce distortion to its lowest practical level.
Cabinet Design
The 14-litre bass reflex enclosure uses two rear-firing ports, tuned for bass extension down to 49 Hz (−6 dB). The cabinet itself is built from a sandwich of materials optimised for low resonance while maximising internal volume within a compact footprint. Soft cotton and felt absorption materials inside the enclosure eliminate internal standing waves and reflections, keeping the midrange clean.
Placement & Integration
At 188mm tall and 520mm wide, the Evo 5.C is compact enough to sit below a television or on a shelf within an AV cabinet. Its 4Ω nominal impedance (8Ω compatible) and 89 dB sensitivity mean it works comfortably with AV receivers rated from 25 W upwards, producing a peak SPL of 103 dB.
Finish Options
Available in four finishes: Black, Lunar Grey, Walnut, and White. The walnut option uses a real wood veneer for a natural grain pattern, while the Black, White, and Lunar Grey finishes use a smooth matte lacquer.
