Optoma

Optoma

Optoma was originally established as Zhihong Technology, a subsidiary of Coretronic Corporation. The brand was renamed Optoma by its General Manager Telly Kuo, and the company now operates with its headquarters in Hemel Hempstead, United Kingdom, serving worldwide markets through a network of regional offices and distributors.

Rather than the LCD technology favoured by some competitors, Optoma built its product range around Digital Light Processing technology using chipsets from Texas Instruments. By 2006, the company had sold 600,000 projectors in a year and ranked second in the United States projector market and fourth globally. Following an IPO on the Taiwan Stock Exchange in July 2007, Optoma continued to grow its market position, and by 2011 held an 8 per cent share of the global projector market, having sold more DLP projectors internationally than any other manufacturer for four consecutive years.

Today Optoma produces a broad portfolio of DLP projectors for home cinema, education, business presentation, and professional installation use. The company employs over 500 people and remains a subsidiary of Coretronic Corporation.
