The Wharfedale Diamond 12.3i is the floorstanding model in the updated DIAMOND 12i Series, sitting above the 12.1i and 12.2i bookshelf speakers and the 12.Ci centre. It is a 2.5-way design that pairs a 25mm textile dome tweeter with two 130mm advanced PP cone drivers in a rear-ported cabinet, taking the foundations of the long-running Diamond 12 line and refining them with new finishes and revised port tuning.
Refined acoustic engineering
For the i-series update, Wharfedale's engineering team revisited the cabinet's bass port and internal damping. The work focused on cleaner transitions between low and mid frequencies and a more controlled bass response, while preserving the neutral character that defined the original Diamond 12.3.
2.5-way driver array
Two 130mm (5") advanced polypropylene cones handle the lower frequencies in a 2.5-way arrangement: one driver covers the full bass and lower-midrange range while the second concentrates on the bass region, extending output and increasing dynamic headroom. The cones are lightweight and well-damped, giving expressive dynamics and precise transient response. A low-damping rubber surround supports a wide dynamic range, and ribbed cone shaping helps maintain a smooth frequency response.
25mm textile dome tweeter
High frequencies are handled by a 25mm woven polyester dome treated with a high-loss damping coating for an extended, smooth treble. The tweeter sits behind a flat front plate with a minimal waveguide, designed to broaden dispersion and improve off-axis response so the sense of stereo space holds across a wide listening area.
Crossover and cabinet
The drivers are integrated by a crossover network tuned for a smooth handover at 2.2kHz. The cabinet is a 26.6-litre rear-ported floorstanding enclosure built to control panel resonance and direct energy through the drivers rather than the walls. The bass port is tuned to extend low-frequency output to a -6dB point of 40Hz, and the speaker presents an 8 Ohms-compatible nominal load with a 5.0 Ohms minimum impedance, suiting most stereo amplifiers in the 30-150W range.
Classic Walnut finish
This variant is finished in Classic Walnut, pairing the natural warmth of walnut wrap with a semi-matte black front baffle for a contemporary contrast. The Walnut finish sits alongside All-Black and Stone Grey alternatives in the DIAMOND 12i Series.
