The T+A Solitaire HA 200 is a reference-grade headphone amplifier and DAC from the German manufacturer T+A elektroakustik, designed and built in Herford, Germany. Sitting within T+A’s Series 200 range alongside the DAC 200, A 200 power amplifier, and MP 200 multi-source player, the HA 200 brings the company’s flagship HV technology to a dedicated headphone platform for the first time. With over 2,300 components housed in a machined aluminium enclosure, it represents T+A’s uncompromising approach to headphone listening.
HV Technology Amplifier Section
The analogue amplifier section is based on T+A’s proprietary HV (High Voltage) technology: a pure Class-A design using special MOS-FET transistors with no op-amps and no integrated amplifier chips. The output stages operate with a high idle current of up to 700 mA, delivering the current reserves needed to drive headphones across the full impedance spectrum from 8 to 1,000 Ohms. A dedicated 100-Watt analogue power supply with two separate 50-Watt toroidal transformers — one for the digital section, one for the analogue section — ensures stable, low-noise power delivery.
Three headphone outputs are provided: a 6.3 mm single-ended jack, a 4.4 mm Pentaconn balanced connector, and a 4-pin XLR balanced output. Each output offers selectable source impedance matching at 8, 12, 18, 25, 40, and 80 Ohms, allowing precise tuning to suit different headphone loads. The XLR 4-pin output doubles as a pre-amplifier connection for driving an external stereo power amplifier. An analogue crossfeed function, implemented with a dedicated analogue filter circuit, creates a more natural soundstage presentation by blending a controlled amount of left-channel signal into the right channel and vice versa.
True 1-Bit DAC
The digital section features T+A’s proprietary True 1-Bit converter architecture with completely separate signal paths for PCM and DSD formats. PCM conversion uses a Double-Differential-Quadruple-Converter topology with four 32-bit Sigma-Delta D/A converters per channel, operating at a conversion rate of 705.6/768 kSps. The DSD path is a dedicated True 1-Bit converter supporting native bitstream playback up to DSD 1024 (49.2 MHz). T+A’s signal processor provides synchronous upsampling with five selectable oversampling algorithms: FIR short, FIR long, Bezier/IIR, Bezier, and NOS (non-oversampling). A phase-linear Bessel filter of 3rd order with switchable 60 or 120 kHz cut-off frequency handles the analogue output filtering. The digital section has its own dedicated power supply and is galvanically isolated from the analogue stages.
Connectivity
The HA 200 offers an extensive array of digital and analogue inputs. Two USB-B inputs based on the Thesycon high-resolution chipset support asynchronous transfer up to PCM 768 kHz and DSD 1024. Professional-grade AES/EBU and BNC digital connections sit alongside two coaxial S/P-DIF and two optical TOS-Link inputs, all supporting 32–192 kHz at 16–24 bit. Two HDMI inputs (stereo only) and one HDMI ARC output are available as options. Wireless connectivity is provided via Bluetooth with aptX HD, SBC, and AAC codec support. On the analogue side, both unbalanced RCA (10 kΩ) and balanced XLR (20 kΩ) inputs are fitted.
Construction
The enclosure is built entirely from non-magnetic aluminium. The front panel is machined from solid aluminium plate — the same construction method used in T+A’s flagship HV series — while the heatsinks are produced using an extrusion process. Top, bottom, and rear panels are cut from aluminium plate with ultra-close tolerances, providing homogeneous heat distribution for optimal operating conditions. Two QPPM (Quasi Peak Programme Meter Type 1) VU meters and a high-resolution display show operating parameters including input source, volume level, data rate, oversampling filter type, output impedance, and crossfeed status. The FM8 IR remote control provides full system control. Display, LED, and VU meter brightness and colour are all user-adjustable.
