T+A
T+A elektroakustik was founded in 1978 in Herford, Westphalia, Germany, by engineers Siegfried Amft and Lothar Wiemann. Working initially from a garage workshop, the two founders began by designing loudspeaker systems in transmission-line enclosures, before expanding into active speaker systems, amplifiers, and preamplifiers through the 1980s.
The company name stands for "Theorie und Anwendung" — Theory and Application — reflecting a development philosophy in which every product travels the full path from scientific theory to practical realisation. T+A is a family-owned business that manufactures all products in-house across 6,000 square metres of production space in Herford, with hand-assembly carried out by trained specialists working in small groups. All external casings use steel, aluminium, or wood exclusively.
Key milestones include the 1995 introduction of the Solitaire A2D digital active loudspeakers featuring eleven DSP processors, entry into the home cinema market in 1997, and the release of the V10 integrated tube amplifier to mark the company's 25th anniversary in 2004. T+A today produces a comprehensive range spanning amplifiers, CD and SACD players, music streamers, turntables, preamplifiers, headphones, and loudspeaker systems, sold exclusively through a specialist dealer network.
