The SVS Ultra Evolution Bookshelf is the mid-size model in SVS's flagship Ultra Evolution speaker range, sitting above the compact Nano and below the larger Tower and Pinnacle floorstanders. It shares the same acoustic design philosophy, driver material choices, and cabinet geometry as its siblings — the same diamond-coated aluminium tweeter, the same composite glass-fibre woofer construction, and the same time-aligned cabinet geometry — in an enclosure sized for shelf or stand use in small to medium rooms.
Tweeter
The 25mm (1") aluminium dome tweeter receives a vapour-deposited diamond-like carbon coating, applied to the dome surface after forming. SVS states this raises the dome's rigidity and extends the resonant frequency well beyond the audible range, allowing the tweeter to operate in its linear piston range throughout the audio band and beyond — the measured upper limit reaches 40kHz. The tweeter is mounted on an organic cellular lattice diffuser, a sculptured surround structure that SVS designs to control diffraction and manage off-axis dispersion.
Woofer & Cabinet
The 165mm (6.5") woofer uses a composite glass-fibre cone, chosen for its combination of stiffness and low mass. The rear-firing bass reflex port extends the bass response to a measured 40Hz (±3dB) — a genuinely deep result for a bookshelf enclosure of this size, and one that reduces the reliance on subwoofer support in smaller rooms. The cabinet geometry is time-aligned: the tweeter and woofer are positioned so that their acoustic centres are co-planar at the listening position, improving phase coherence across the crossover region.
Crossover & Connectivity
The two-way crossover hands off at 1,800Hz, using premium-grade capacitors, inductors, and resistors on a heavy-trace PCB. The nominal impedance is 6 ohms and the sensitivity is 87dB (2.83V at 1 metre), making the Bookshelf compatible with a wide range of stereo amplifiers and AV receivers. Recommended amplifier power is 20–150W. Connections are made via gold-plated 5-way binding posts, accepting bare wire, banana plugs, spade terminals, and pin connectors; the terminals are spaced for bi-wire and bi-amp configurations. Acoustically transparent neodymium magnetic grilles attach without visible fixings.
Application
The Ultra Evolution Bookshelf works equally well as a stereo pair in a small to medium room and as front left/right or surround speakers in a home cinema system. It is available in three finishes: Piano Gloss Black, Piano Gloss White, and Black Ash (Black Oak Veneer).
