True 3-Way Centre Channel Engineering

The SVS Prime Centre Speaker is built around a genuine 3-way driver architecture — a configuration that matters most in the centre channel, where the bulk of a film's dialogue lives. By assigning the critical 350Hz–2.4kHz vocal band to a dedicated 3.5" polypropylene midrange driver, SVS removes the frequency-sharing compromises that affect 2-way designs and delivers dialogue that remains clear and natural at any listening level.

Driver Configuration

Two 5.25" polypropylene cone woofers handle the bass and lower-midrange registers, handing off to the sealed midrange driver at 350Hz. Above 2.4kHz, a 1" aluminium dome tweeter takes over high-frequency reproduction. All crossover slopes are 12dB per octave, ensuring a smooth and phase-coherent transition between drivers. The midrange driver is independently sealed within its own sub-enclosure inside the cabinet, isolating it acoustically from the woofers and preventing the bass drivers from modulating the critical midrange frequency band.

Enclosure and Connectivity

The bass reflex enclosure uses a rear-firing port to extend low-frequency output to 48Hz (±3dB), providing useful weight to film soundtracks and effects without over-relying on the subwoofer crossover. A single pair of 5-way binding posts accepts bare wire, spade lugs, pin connectors, and single or dual banana plugs — the absence of bi-wire terminals is an intentional design decision that avoids the impedance uncertainty introduced by split binding post arrays.

Build and Finish

The cabinet is finished in SVS's Premium Black Ash vinyl, with a texture and grain matched to complement the SVS Prime Tower and Bookshelf speakers for a visually coherent home theatre package. The included cloth grille is retained by a pin and cup system. Four rubber feet are included to protect surfaces and reduce cabinet resonance against the mounting shelf.
