Solid Steel SS-5 Vintage Speaker Stands (Black) (Pair)

The Solid Steel SS-5 Vintage is the tallest model in Solidsteel's iconic SS Series of speaker stands, a design that has remained in continuous production since 1992. Handcrafted in Italy, the SS Series is built around a distinctive open-frame tripod structure that minimises acoustic interaction between the stand and loudspeaker while providing exceptional stability for monitor-type speakers weighing up to 40 kg per stand.

Construction & Materials

Each SS-5 stand is constructed from three stainless steel vertical tubular supports, hand-welded with brass using acetylene and oxygen. The tubes terminate in crimped steel bars and are coated in an anti-resonant finish to control vibration. The top plate is made from ennobled MDF with a hand-painted lacquer finish and is interchangeable to optimise contact with different loudspeaker models. Decoupling between the chassis and top plate is achieved through three high-precision stainless steel ball bearings, isolating the speaker from the stand mechanically.

Damping & Isolation

The tubular steel uprights are hollow and fillable, allowing the owner to add sand, lead shot, or other damping material to increase mass and further reduce resonance. Removable, height-adjustable stainless steel spikes are fitted to the base for secure floor coupling, and protective stainless steel floor discs are supplied to prevent damage to hard flooring. Pata-fix adhesive is included for securing the speaker to the top plate.

Design

Designed by Solidsteel founder Moreno Conti, the SS Series tripod form factor has remained unchanged for over three decades. The three-leg geometry provides inherent stability on uneven surfaces and keeps the stand's footprint compact relative to its load capacity. The SS-5 stands 525 mm tall, making it suited to bookshelf and standmount speakers that require ear-level positioning from a seated listening position.
