The QED XT3 is the entry point to QED's audiophile power cable range, sitting below the flagship XT5 in a two-model lineup designed to complement the brand's award-winning speaker cables and interconnects. Both models share QED's proprietary X-Tube conductor geometry — a technology proven across their loudspeaker cable ranges — adapted here for the specific demands of mains power delivery.
X-Tube Construction
At the heart of the XT3 is QED's X-Tube technology, which braids individual cores within the live and neutral conductors around a hollow LDPE (low-density polyethylene) core. This geometry controls inductance while isolating the conductor bundles from one another, reducing eddy current effects that can introduce distortion into the power supply. Each bundle is individually insulated with K130 PVC, and the conductors themselves are 99.999% oxygen-free copper — the same purity grade used across QED's Reference-tier signal cables.
Practical Design
The XT3 uses a 1.5 mm² cross-section, keeping the cable slim and flexible enough for practical routing behind equipment racks. The outer jacket is finished in QED's Black Pearl sheathing with an overall diameter of 10.2 mm. At the mains end, the cable is terminated with a UK MK Tough Plug 655, and at the equipment end with an IEC C13 794 connector. The cable is fully type-tested to EN 60320, EN 60884, and EN 50525 safety standards.
Range Context
The XT3 provides an accessible entry into dedicated power cabling for hi-fi and AV systems. For those seeking higher performance, the XT5 steps up with a larger conductor cross-section and enhanced shielding at approximately twice the price. Both cables use QED’s X-Tube conductor geometry at different specification levels.
