The QED QX16/2 PVC is a professional-grade 2-core installation speaker cable from QED’s Professional series, designed for residential and commercial multi-room and home cinema installations where low smoke zero halogen (LSZH) cables are not specified. It sits alongside the LSZH and PE Outdoor variants in QED’s QX16 installation range, sharing the same 16 AWG high purity copper conductor core but with a flame retardant PVC outer jacket suited to standard indoor environments.
Conductor Construction
Each core uses a 30/0.26 stranded high purity copper conductor with a cross-sectional area of 1.5 mm² and a stranded diameter of 1.64 mm. The conductor resistance of 13.3 Ω/km ensures a low-loss signal path even on longer cable runs typical of whole-house distributed audio systems.
Jacket & Safety
The white PVC outer jacket has an outside diameter of 6.20 mm and is colour-coded with red and black conductor insulation sheaths for straightforward identification during installation. The cable’s flame retardant design meets and exceeds IEC 60332-1 requirements, and it is fully RoHS2 compliant. The dielectric strength is rated at 600 kV AC.
Installation Features
The cable is sequentially metre-marked with a countdown print, so installers always know how much cable remains in the box without needing to measure. This 100m length is supplied in QED’s PRObox format — a compact dispenser box designed for clean, tangle-free pulls on site. A 300m reel is also available for larger projects.
QX16 Range
QED offers the QX16 in three jacket variants to suit different installation environments. The PVC version (white) is the standard choice for indoor residential and commercial runs. The LSZH version (pink jacket) is specified where building regulations require low smoke zero halogen cabling. The PE Outdoor version (black jacket) is UV and water resistant and rated for direct burial without additional conduit.
