The QED QX16/2 PVC is a 2-core installation speaker cable from QED's professional custom install range, designed for multi-room audio and home cinema installations where low smoke zero halogen (LSZH) certification is not required. Supplied on a 300-metre reel, the QX16/2 uses large cross-sectional area high purity copper conductors to maintain consistent signal delivery even on the longer cable runs typical of whole-house audio systems.
Construction
Each of the two conductors is built from a 30-strand bundle of 0.26mm diameter high purity copper wires, yielding a total cross-sectional area of 1.5mm² (16 AWG) per conductor. The stranded construction provides flexibility during installation routing through walls, ceilings, and conduit. Colour-coded red and black insulation sheaths identify positive and negative conductors, simplifying multi-zone wiring and reducing the risk of phase errors across speaker pairs.
Jacket & Fire Rating
The outer jacket is white PVC, flame retardant to IEC 60332-1. This standard tests resistance to vertical flame propagation on a single cable — an important consideration for cables routed through domestic wall cavities and ceiling voids. RoHS2 compliant.
Sequential Metre Marking
The jacket is printed with a countdown metre marking system, showing the remaining length on the reel at any point. This allows installers to plan cable runs precisely and track remaining stock without measuring or weighing the reel.
Installation Notes
The QX16/2 PVC is suited to interior installations in standard domestic and light commercial environments. For installations requiring LSZH certification (public buildings, commercial spaces, areas where smoke toxicity regulations apply), QED offers the QX16/2 LSZH variant with a pink jacket. For outdoor or direct-burial runs, the QX16/2 PE variant with UV-resistant black polyethylene sheath is available.
