The Q Acoustics 5040 5.1 Plus Cinema Pack brings together five speakers and a subwoofer from the award-winning 5000 Series to deliver a complete surround-sound system for home cinema. Built around the 5040 floorstanding speakers handling the front left and right channels, the pack adds a pair of compact 5010 bookshelf speakers for surround duties, the dedicated 5090 centre channel for dialogue clarity, and the QB12 subwoofer for low-frequency extension down to 28 Hz.

5040 Floorstanding Speakers

The 5040 is a notably compact floorstander that pairs two 125 mm (5 in) C³ Continuous Curved Cone™ bass/mid drivers with a 25 mm (1 in) tweeter. The C³ cone geometry delivers smoother high-frequency integration with the tweeter and superior bass dynamics compared to conventional straight-sided designs, with a 50% increase in power handling over comparable drivers using 25.4 mm voice coils. Helmholtz Pressure Equaliser™ (HPE™) tubes fitted inside the cabinet reduce internal standing waves and pressure build-up, while Point-to-Point™ (P2P™) bracing stiffens the enclosure at critical points for improved stereo imaging. The tweeter sits in its own hermetically sealed, mechanically isolated chamber to prevent pressure modulations from the bass/mid drivers affecting treble performance. A butyl rubber and black acrylic laminated baffle front further controls resonance.

5090 Centre Speaker

The 5090 centre channel uses the same driver technology in a horizontal configuration: two 110 mm (4.5 in) C³ Continuous Curved Cone™ bass/mid drivers flanking a 25 mm (1 in) sealed and isolated tweeter. With a crossover point of 2.1 kHz and sensitivity of 90.5 dB, it is voiced to integrate seamlessly with the 5040 floorstanders while projecting dialogue clearly across the listening area. Frequency response extends from 57 Hz to 30 kHz.

5010 Surround Speakers

The 5010 bookshelf speakers handle the surround channels. Each uses a single 110 mm (4.5 in) C³ bass/mid driver and a 25 mm (1 in) hermetically sealed tweeter, with P2P™ internal bracing carried over from the larger models. Despite their compact dimensions of just 264 × 160 × 263 mm, they deliver a frequency response of 56 Hz to 30 kHz and can be wall-mounted or placed on stands to suit the room layout.

QB12 Subwoofer

The QB12 completes the system with a 305 mm (12 in) high-excursion paper cone driver powered by a Class D amplifier delivering 200 W continuous (400 W peak). The sealed infinite-baffle enclosure is built from MDF with a 36 mm thick baffle and internal dart bracing for structural rigidity. A variable crossover (40–250 Hz) and adjustable phase allow precise integration with the satellite speakers. Frequency response reaches down to 28 Hz for convincing low-frequency effects.

Cabinet Construction

All speakers in the 5000 Series share Q Acoustics’ engineering approach to cabinet design. P2P™ bracing connects opposing internal surfaces at calculated stress points, reducing panel resonance without adding excessive mass. The 5040 floorstanders also benefit from HPE™ tubes — tuned Helmholtz resonators that absorb internal pressure peaks which would otherwise colour the midrange output. Each cabinet is finished to a high standard in a choice of four finishes.
