The Pro-Ject X1 B sits within Pro-Ject’s X-Line series, a range designed to bridge the gap between the accessible Debut and EVO turntables and the high-end Xtension and Signature models. The “B” designation signifies True Balanced Connection — a balanced signal path from cartridge to phono stage via Mini XLR connectors, reducing picked-up noise and interference compared to conventional RCA wiring.
Construction
The X1 B is built around a thickened MDF plinth available in High Gloss and Real Wood finishes. The motor and sub-platter assembly are countersunk into the top of the plinth, lowering the centre of gravity and reducing transmitted vibration. Three height-adjustable, damped aluminium feet provide isolation from surface-borne feedback — a meaningful upgrade over the rubber feet found on entry-level Pro-Ject models.
The platter is a 20mm-thick, 1.5kg resonance-free acrylic disc, paired with an included felt mat. A stainless steel main bearing with a soft brass bushing provides the pivot point, chosen for its low-friction and low-noise characteristics.
Tonearm
Pro-Ject fits the X1 B with an 8.6-inch one-piece carbon-aluminium sandwich tonearm — a construction that combines the rigidity of carbon fibre with the damping properties of aluminium. Effective arm length is 218.5mm with 18mm overhang and an effective mass of 10.0g. Both azimuth and VTA (vertical tracking angle) are fully adjustable, allowing precise cartridge alignment.
Drive & Speed Control
A belt-drive system powered by a DC/AC generator board provides clean, stable motor drive across three speeds: 33, 45, and 78 RPM. Speed selection is electronic, via a single button. The generator board synthesises a clean AC signal from the DC supply, minimising motor-induced noise. A 15V DC power supply is included.
Balanced Output
The defining feature of the X1 B is its Mini XLR balanced output. A single cable carries the signal from turntable to phono stage, and Pro-Ject offers a range of balanced phono cables with different terminations to suit their phono preamplifiers. For the full balanced chain, Pro-Ject recommends pairing the X1 B with the Phono Box S3 B or DS3 B.
Cartridge
The X1 B ships with a factory-fitted Pick it S2 MM cartridge, pre-adjusted at the factory for correct alignment. An upgrade to the Pick it PRO Balanced cartridge is available separately.

The X1 B includes a 15V DC power supply, dust cover, Connect it E phono cable, and felt mat, alongside the pre-mounted cartridge.
