Vertical Tracking Angle (VTA) is the angle at which your cartridge stylus meets the record groove. Getting this right is essential for accurate, balanced sound reproduction: if the tonearm sits too high or too low at the pivot end, the stylus will not be aligned as the manufacturer intended, leading to tonal imbalance, increased record and stylus wear, and a loss of detail retrieval.
The Pro-Ject VTA it is a precision 1.5 mm aluminium spacer that raises the tonearm bearing housing on compatible Pro-Ject turntables, allowing you to restore correct VTA when fitting a thicker aftermarket platter mat (such as the Pro-Ject Cork it or a felt mat), a higher-profile platter, or a cartridge with a taller body than the factory-fitted model. Without a spacer like this, swapping platters or mats can compromise the geometry that Pro-Ject engineers have carefully dialled in for each deck.
Precision Fit
Designed specifically for Pro-Ject’s popular entry-level and mid-range turntables, the VTA it slots neatly between the tonearm and its mounting point. Compatible models include the Debut I, II and III, Debut Carbon, Debut Carbon EVO, Debut EVO 2, and the Essential I, II and III (standard configurations only). Installation requires a Philips #1 screwdriver and a 5.5 mm nut driver wrench; Pro-Ject recommend that fitting is carried out by an experienced technician, as unauthorised installation will void the product warranty.
Part of the Pro-Ject Accessories Range
The VTA it forms part of Pro-Ject’s growing range of upgrade accessories, designed to help owners get the most from their turntable without replacing the deck itself. Paired with one of Pro-Ject’s alternative platter mats or an upgraded platter, it gives you a straightforward route to improved performance at modest cost.
