Pro-Ject Tuner Box S2 Silver

The Pro-Ject Tuner Box S2 is a compact FM tuner from Pro-Ject’s Box Design range, built for audio enthusiasts who want to integrate high-quality FM radio playback into an existing hi-fi system without taking up significant shelf space. It succeeds the original Tuner Box S with an improved S2-generation aluminium chassis shared across the Box Design series, bringing a cleaner build and improved shielding.

Tuning and Presets

The Tuner Box S2 covers the FM band from 87.5 to 108 MHz in 50 kHz steps, with both manual and automatic station scanning. Up to 99 stations can be stored as presets for quick recall. The high-contrast dot-matrix display shows the current frequency, preset number, centre-of-station indicator, stereo or mono reception mode, and signal strength — and can be dimmed to avoid distraction in darker listening environments.

Connectivity and Integration

A single pair of RCA phono sockets provides the analogue line-level output at 0.775 Vrms, connecting directly to any amplifier or pre-amplifier with a spare analogue input. The 75 Ω co-axial DIN antenna socket accepts a standard FM aerial. For system integration, 12 V trigger input and output jacks (2.5 mm coaxial) allow the Tuner Box S2 to power on and off in tandem with other Box Design components such as the Pre Box S2 Analogue.

Power and Build

Power is supplied by the included 5 V/1 A DC outboard supply (110–240 V, 50–60 Hz), drawing just 70 mA in operation and less than 1 W in standby. The supply can be swapped for any standard 5 V USB power bank for portable or off-grid use. The full-aluminium S2 chassis measures just 103 × 37 × 112 mm (121 mm including connectors) and weighs 315 g without the power supply, making it one of the most compact dedicated FM tuners available.
