How It Works
Place the Strobe it disc on the turntable platter and start the turntable rotating. Position a standard mains-powered light source so that it illuminates the disc. The disc carries circular rings of precisely spaced dashes, each ring calibrated to a specific speed and mains frequency combination. When the platter is running at the correct speed, the dashes in the corresponding ring will appear stationary under the mains-frequency flickering of the lamp. If the dashes appear to drift forwards or backwards, the speed is running fast or slow respectively, and the turntable's speed trim can be adjusted accordingly.
Compatible Speeds and Frequencies
Strobe it supports both 33 1/3 RPM and 45 RPM playback speeds. The disc is calibrated for use with a 50 Hz mains frequency, which is the standard supply frequency across the UK and Europe, making it immediately usable with any standard mains-powered lamp found in the home. Note that Daylight, fluorescent lamps (energy-saving lamps), flashlights, and LED lamps powered by direct current are not suitable light sources, as they do not flicker at the mains frequency required for the stroboscopic effect.
