The Pro-Ject Stereo Set E1 is a complete vinyl playback system combining three components from the Austrian manufacturer's E-line: the E1 turntable, the Stereo Box E integrated amplifier, and a pair of Speaker Box 5E bookshelf speakers. Designed as a plug-and-play introduction to analogue listening, the set delivers a coherent, factory-matched system at a price point well below what the three components would cost individually. It sits at the entry level of Pro-Ject's range, below the more premium Colourful Audio System E.
E1 Turntable
The E1 is a belt-driven turntable supporting 33 and 45 RPM with electronic speed change. Its plinth is CNC-machined from composite fibre with no hollow spaces inside, providing a rigid, low-resonance foundation. The 300mm ABS polymer platter features purpose-designed ridges that create an anti-resonant playing surface, and a felt mat is supplied. The pre-set 8.6-inch aluminium tonearm has an effective length of 218.5mm and an effective mass of 7.0g, and comes factory-fitted with an Audio Technica AT 3600 L cartridge. Output is via a directly soldered RCA phono cable (1.23m), and a dust cover, 7-inch single adapter, and external 15V DC power supply are included in the box.
Stereo Box E Amplifier
The Stereo Box E is a compact integrated amplifier with a fully analogue preamplifier section and low-noise power amplifier stage. Despite its diminutive 206 × 51 × 186mm footprint, it delivers 2 × 21W into 8Ω or 2 × 40W into 4Ω. The amplifier houses a built-in Moving Magnet phono stage with 25dB of gain, allowing the E1 turntable to connect directly without an external phono preamplifier. Additional analogue inputs include one RCA line-level input and one 3.5mm auxiliary jack. Digital connectivity comprises two optical S/PDIF inputs and one coaxial S/PDIF input, alongside Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX and aptX HD codec support. A 6.3mm headphone jack with automatic speaker muting, a dedicated RCA subwoofer output, and a USB-C power distribution port for modern streamers round out the connections. The heavy-duty steel case features a brushed aluminium front panel with a motor-driven analogue volume control and gold-plated RCA connectors.
Speaker Box 5E Speakers
The Speaker Box 5E is a two-way bass-reflex bookshelf speaker built around a 5-inch fibreglass cone woofer and a 1-inch silk-dome tweeter. The rear-firing bass-reflex port extends low-frequency response down to 68Hz, while the non-resonating MDF cabinet keeps colouration low. Sensitivity is rated at 86dB (1W/1m) with a nominal impedance of 4Ω, and the speakers accept amplifier power from 10 to 140W. Connection is via gold-plated banana terminals. Magnetic speaker grilles are included.
