Drivers and Crossover

A 25 mm silk-dome tweeter handles the high frequencies, delivering crystal-clear highs with low distortion and a smooth, extended response. The 130 mm fibre-glass cone woofer provides full-bodied mids alongside punchy, well-controlled bass. The crossover is wired direct to the drivers without a printed circuit board, using only audiophile-grade components and lead-free solder. This direct-wired approach minimises signal degradation between amplifier and driver.

Cabinet Design

The bass-reflex cabinet is constructed from ultra-stiff, non-resonating MDF with sophisticated internal bracing to suppress unwanted colorations. Pro-Ject uses a specially selected, resistant and eco-friendly adhesive throughout the assembly to ensure an airtight, vibration-free enclosure. The result is a compact cabinet that controls bass output with precision while keeping the mid-range clean and open.

Sensitivity and Amplifier Matching

With a sensitivity of 88 dB (1W/1m) and a nominal impedance of 8 ohms, the Speaker Box 5 S2 is a straightforward load for any stereo amplifier. Pro-Ject recommends driving them with between 10 and 150 watts RMS. As with any loudspeaker, using an amplifier with sufficient headroom reduces distortion at lower volumes and protects the drivers during extended listening sessions.

Finishes

The Speaker Box 5 S2 is available in eight finishes: two high-quality wood veneers (Walnut and Eucalyptus) and six satin painted options (Satin Black, Satin White, Satin Yellow, Satin Green, Satin Blue, and Satin Red). Each finish is applied to the same MDF cabinet, giving buyers the freedom to choose a speaker that suits their room and system aesthetics. The Eucalyptus wood veneer finish shown here gives the cabinet a light, contemporary character with a distinctive natural grain.

The Speaker Box 5 S2 has been praised by the international audio press.
