The Pro-Ject Speaker Box 5 E Carbon builds on the established Speaker Box 5 E platform with a significant driver upgrade: a 5-inch carbon fibre glass composite cone bass and midrange unit. The stiffer cone material reduces unwanted coloration and improves transient accuracy, resulting in a more articulate and detailed sound when compared to the standard polypropylene version.
Upgraded Drivers for Greater Resolution
Alongside the carbon fibre bass and midrange driver, the Speaker Box 5 E Carbon retains a 1-inch silk dome tweeter, ensuring smooth and extended high-frequency reproduction. The crossover has been revised to take advantage of the improved driver properties, delivering a frequency response of 65Hz to 20kHz and handling up to 150 watts of programme material, offering 10Hz deeper bass extension and 10 watts more headroom than the standard model.
Bass Reflex Enclosure with Generous Proportions
The Speaker Box 5 E Carbon uses a rear-firing bass reflex port in an MDF cabinet that is slightly larger than the standard 5 E, giving the carbon driver room to breathe and contribute to the lower bass extension. At 270 x 165 x 220mm, it remains genuinely compact while weighing 4.76kg each, a reflection of the denser, higher-mass cabinet construction.
Bold Colour Range
The Speaker Box 5 E Carbon is available in a choice of five distinct finishes alongside the natural Walnut veneer option: Satin Golden Yellow, Satin Black, Satin Steel Blue, Satin Fir Green, and Satin White. These distinctive colour choices make the speaker a design statement as much as an acoustic instrument, and each finish is applied consistently across the enclosure.
Practical Installation
A keyhole wall-mount slot on the rear panel means the Speaker Box 5 E Carbon can be positioned on a bookshelf, a dedicated speaker stand, or mounted directly to the wall. Bi-wire and bi-amp-capable binding posts accept banana plugs, spades, or bare wire, and the 4-ohm nominal impedance ensures compatibility with a wide range of stereo amplifiers.
