The Pro-Ject Speaker Box 3 E is a compact passive bookshelf speaker designed to pair naturally with Pro-Ject's turntable and amplifier range. Sold as a pair, it occupies a small footprint while delivering genuine stereo performance, making it a practical choice for desktop listening, compact hi-fi systems, or as part of a modest home cinema setup.
Design and Cabinet
The Speaker Box 3 E uses a bass reflex enclosure with a rear-firing port, tuned to extend low-frequency output beyond what a sealed cabinet of this size could achieve. The non-resonating MDF cabinet is finished in high-gloss white, keeping coloration low and allowing the drivers to do their work without unwanted cabinet contributions. Magnetic speaker grilles are included, and optional wall-mount brackets allow the speakers to be placed off a shelf entirely.
Driver Configuration
A 2-way driver arrangement is used: a 3-inch fibre glass bass/mid driver handles the lower and mid frequencies, while a 0.75-inch silk dome tweeter takes over in the upper registers. The silk dome material provides a smooth, controlled high-frequency response, avoiding the hardness that metal dome tweeters can sometimes introduce at moderate listening levels. The result is a tonal balance that is relatively neutral, with a transparency that suits a wide range of music.
Amplifier Compatibility
The Speaker Box 3 E presents a nominal impedance of 4 ohms and a sensitivity of 85dB (1W/1m), which means a clean, stable amplifier is important. Pro-Ject recommends between 10 and 80 watts per channel; their own Stereo Box S3 BT and MaiA S3 are natural partners, as both are designed to drive 4-ohm loads comfortably. The gold-plated banana terminals accept standard speaker cable in terminated or bare-wire form.
Also Available As
The Speaker Box 3 E is available in three finishes: Black, Walnut, and White. All share the same drivers and specifications; the choice is purely aesthetic.
