Design and Construction

The Speaker Box 12 E Carbon uses a 2.5-way bass reflex design, with the lower woofer handling only bass frequencies to ensure powerful, room-filling low-end extension. Both woofers and the tweeter are mounted in an ultra-stiff, non-resonating MDF cabinet for a clean, accurate soundstage. A separate base cabinet filled with sand creates a gravity mass-point for optimal vibration absorption and stability. Magnetic grilles in black are included. Gold-plated banana terminals support bi-wiring and bi-amplification via a double terminal block on the rear. The cabinet is available in satin painted finishes and a real wood walnut veneer.

Carbon Fibre Technology

The Speaker Box 12 E Carbon takes its name from its two 5" fibre glass carbon composite bass/mid drivers. These specially engineered cones combine the stiffness and low mass of carbon fibre with a composite construction, resulting in a highly controlled, distortion-free response through the bass and midrange. The 1" silk dome tweeter handles the upper frequencies with transparency and detail.

Performance

With a frequency response of 42 Hz to 20,000 Hz, the Speaker Box 12 E Carbon delivers a genuinely audiophile flat response capable of reproducing both powerful deep bass and airy, extended highs. Sensitivity is rated at 89 dB (1W/1m) with a nominal impedance of 4 ohms, requiring an amplifier output of at least 20 watts per channel. Pro-Ject recommends partnering it with the Stereo Box DS3 or MaiA DS3 integrated amplifiers. A German review by Jorg Dames (August 2025) noted: "The Pro-Ject Speaker Box 12 E Carbon speakers are so artfully and lovingly tuned that they actually allow the listener to feel what is meant by the often-cited difference between high-end and mere hi-fi."
