The Pro-Ject Record Box E is an entry-level phono preamplifier that brings both audiophile-quality vinyl playback and USB digital recording into a compact, affordable package. Compatible with moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) cartridges, it accepts the tiny signals from a turntable stylus and applies precision RIAA equalisation before passing a clean line-level output to your amplifier.
A built-in Burr Brown PCM2904 analogue-to-digital converter adds a USB output, allowing you to connect the Record Box E directly to a computer and transfer your vinyl collection into digital audio files. The converter supports sampling rates of 32, 44.1 and 48 kHz at 16-bit resolution, and is compatible with Windows XP onwards, Mac OS, and Linux, with no additional drivers required on most systems.
The rear panel carries a pair of RCA phono inputs with a dedicated earth terminal, a pair of RCA line outputs, the Mini-USB connector, and an 18 V DC power socket. Input impedance and capacitance are fixed at the values suited to the vast majority of MM cartridges and lower-output MC types: 47 kΩ and 100 Ω respectively, each at 120 pF. Gain is 40 dB in MM mode and 60 dB in MC mode, and the signal-to-noise ratio is 94 dB (A-weighted) for MM and 75 dB for MC. RIAA curve accuracy is held to within 0.5 dB across the full 20 Hz to 20 kHz range.
At 120 x 32 x 100 mm and weighing just 250 g without its outboard power supply, the Record Box E is small enough to sit unobtrusively on any shelf or alongside a turntable. It is supplied with a country-specific mains adaptor. This Black finish version is also available in Walnut.
