The Pro-Ject Optical Box E Phono is a compact phono preamplifier within the Box Design E series, aimed at users who need to connect a turntable to devices that accept only digital inputs. It features both a standard line-level analogue output and a simultaneous Toslink digital optical output, allowing the same audio signal to be fed to two separate systems at once.
Inputs and Outputs
Two inputs are provided: a moving magnet phono input (RCA) with RIAA equalisation, and a line-level input (3.5mm jack) for tape decks, tuners, or other sources. Outputs are a 3.5mm line-level analogue output and a Toslink optical digital output. Both outputs operate simultaneously, making it usable as a signal splitter. The digital output uses 24-bit/96kHz analogue-to-digital conversion, preserving source quality for digital systems.
Applications
The Optical Box E Phono is particularly suited to connecting a turntable to home cinema receivers, soundbars, or all-in-one systems that lack analogue inputs. It also functions as an input expander, accepting two sources and routing them to a single input. Internal metal shielding reduces RF interference, and the gold-plated RCA inputs minimise oxidation. An outboard 18V/500mA power supply is included.
