The Pro-Ject Lube It is a specialist bearing lubricant designed to maintain the spindle bearings of Pro-Ject turntables with standard non-inverted bearing systems. It helps preserve smooth, low-noise platter rotation over time and forms part of the Pro-Ject accessories range alongside the Grease It, which is intended for inverted bearing turntables.
Why Bearing Lubrication Matters
A turntable platter bearing is one of the most mechanically critical components in the playback chain. As the turntable is used, the factory-applied lubrication gradually wears away through friction, and environmental factors such as temperature changes and humidity can accelerate this process. As lubrication depletes, friction increases within the bearing housing, which can introduce subtle noise and vibration into the signal path. Keeping the bearing properly lubricated is one of the simplest and most effective ways to maintain accurate, quiet vinyl replay.
Formulated for Non-Inverted Bearings
Lube It is specifically designed for turntables with conventional non-inverted bearing systems, where the spindle sits pointing upward within a bearing cup at the base of the platter. Pro-Ject recommends Lube It for the Elemental, Primary, T-Line, Essential, Debut, The Classic, Juke Box, and X1/X2 ranges. For turntables with inverted bearing systems, such as the RPM Line, Xtension models, and Signature Line, Pro-Ject supplies the separate Grease It product instead.
Easy Application
Lube It is supplied in a small dropper bottle, making it straightforward to apply directly into the bearing housing. Pro-Ject advises that the turntable should be kept in regular use to ensure the bearing stays properly lubricated, and that the lubricant should be replenished as needed. There is no fixed service interval, as usage patterns, climate, and humidity all affect the rate at which lubrication is depleted. Pro-Ject notes that it is not possible to apply too much; any excess can simply be wiped away.
