Description
The Pro-Ject Flatten it is a vinyl record flattening machine that sits within the Pro-Ject accessories range, designed to restore warped records to a playable, flat condition. Warping is a common problem with vinyl collections, particularly older pressings and records stored in non-ideal conditions, and even modest warping can introduce unwanted distortion, tracking errors, and playback inconsistencies. The Flatten it addresses this directly and without the need for improvised methods that carry a higher risk of heat damage.
Precision Temperature Control
At the heart of the Flatten it are two precision-heated aluminium plates that form the upper and lower surfaces of the treatment chamber. Aluminium is chosen for its even thermal distribution, which helps maintain a consistent temperature across the full face of the record. The operating temperature is preset at 58-60 degrees Celsius, carefully chosen to soften the vinyl just enough to allow the material to relax back to a flat profile, while remaining well below the point at which vinyl would soften excessively or sustain damage. A low temperature hysteresis of just 2 degrees Celsius keeps the actual operating range tightly controlled, ensuring the unit does not cycle excessively above or below the set point.
Compatible with All Record Sizes and Thicknesses
The Flatten it is designed to accommodate vinyl records of all standard sizes, including 7 inch, 10 inch, and 12 inch discs, and works across the full range of vinyl thicknesses from standard pressings through to heavy 180g and 200g audiophile releases. Pro-Ject notes that different vinyl compounds and pressings respond differently to the flattening process, and that some records may benefit from more than one treatment cycle. It is recommended to clean records before use.
Construction
The unit is constructed in solid aluminium, giving it a substantial, precision-engineered feel consistent with other products in the Pro-Ject range. The outer surfaces share the same milled aluminium finish as the plates themselves. Separate Heating and Power switches provide straightforward control. The Flatten it is designed and manufactured in Europe.
