The Pro-Ject EVO 9 CC is a nine-inch replacement tonearm from the EVO CC range, positioned as Pro-Ject's mid-tier precision tonearm family, sitting above the entry-level 9CC Evolution and below the top-of-range Signature series. It is available in three lengths (9, 10, and 12 inch) and two finishes: CC Black and CC HG (High Gloss). This listing is for the HG finish, which features polished aluminium parts.
Construction
The armtube is machined from a single piece of carbon fibre, chosen for its combination of low mass and high stiffness. It tapers in a conical profile from headshell to pivot, a design that suppresses standing wave reflections along the tube. Effective tonearm mass for the 9-inch version is 8 g, with a compatible cartridge weight range of 7 to 14 g.
The bearing assembly uses an inverted cardanic configuration with four stainless steel pivot tips running in ABEC 7 grade races. The bearing block is machined from solid aluminium and provides the structural rigidity required to translate the bearing's low friction into clean stylus tracking. Pro-Ject states that this bearing geometry delivers stable, low-friction operation that preserves fine groove detail.
The counterweight is TPE-damped to reduce resonances transmitted back into the arm. The arm lift is silicone-damped and can be adjusted to suit the tonearm height setting. The armtube attaches to the bearing housing via a single screw, allowing rotation for azimuth adjustment without the need for tools. Tonearm height is adjusted by loosening two grub screws, giving continuous VTA adjustment across a useful range.
Wiring and Output
Internal wiring is flexible high-purity copper. The output connector is a gold-plated 5-pin DIN socket, compatible with standard phono cable terminations used with Pro-Ject and a wide range of third-party turntable systems. The outer ring of the counterweight disc is open, which Pro-Ject states prevents the bell-mode resonance that can affect solid-disc counterweights.
Installation
The EVO 9 CC mounts in a standard 9-inch tonearm hole with a mounting distance of 212 mm and an overhang of 18 mm. Null points for the 9-inch version are at 130.6 mm and 243.7 mm. The tonearm ships with all hardware needed for mounting and alignment. It is compatible with any turntable that accepts a 9-inch tonearm.
