Description

The Debut Reference 10 sits at the top of Pro-Ject's long-running Debut range, taking the brand's most popular series into reference territory. Where the standard Debut models concentrate on bringing serious analogue performance to a sensible price, the Reference 10 raises the ceiling considerably with a longer 10-inch tonearm, a heavy acrylic platter and a fully balanced cartridge. It is hand-built in Europe and represents Pro-Ject's distillation of more than three decades of turntable engineering.

At the heart of the deck is a precision belt-drive system with a fully decoupled motor and a clean DC/AC power generator that produces a stable sine wave for accurate speed. The 300mm acrylic main platter sits on a diamond-cut aluminium sub-platter, spinning on a high-precision stainless steel axle in a bronze bushing. Three height-adjustable, damped aluminium feet isolate the plinth from its support, and a single-button control switches cleanly between 33 and 45 RPM, with a 78 RPM belt supplied in the box.

The 10-inch carbon-aluminium sandwich tonearm is the defining feature of this deck. Its longer effective length reduces tracking error compared with a standard 9-inch arm, while the carbon construction keeps the moving mass low and the resonance behaviour well controlled. Adjustment is genuinely flexible, with VTA and azimuth both accessible via grub screws so the supplied Pick it PRO Balanced cartridge, co-developed with Ortofon, can be dialled in precisely. True Balanced mini XLR and standard RCA outputs are both fitted on the rear, and a Connect it Phono E RCA cable is included.

Finished in a satin black plinth with brushed aluminium tonearm bearings, sub-platter and feet, the Debut Reference 10 has the understated, purposeful look that runs through Pro-Ject's serious turntables. A clear dust cover, 78 RPM drive belt and 7-inch single adapter are all supplied, so the deck is ready to play straight from the box once levelled and aligned.
