The Pro-Ject Debut Pro S SPU Counterweight 228g is a replacement and upgrade counterweight specifically engineered for the Pro-Ject Debut Pro S turntable. Weighing 228g, it is intended for use with SPU-type cartridges, which are among the heaviest phono cartridges available and require a substantially heavier counterweight than the standard fitment to achieve correct tonearm balance and tracking force.
Compatible with the 10cc EVO Tonearm
The Pro-Ject Debut Pro S is fitted with the 10cc Evolution S-shaped tonearm, a high-quality aluminium tonearm with precision bearings. Standard cartridges are accommodated by the tonearm's standard counterweight, but SPU cartridges from manufacturers such as Ortofon typically weigh in excess of 30g and have a high effective mass. The 228g counterweight provides the additional mass required to bring the tonearm into correct balance and set an accurate tracking force with these cartridges.
Construction
The counterweight is machined from aluminium and incorporates a TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) damping insert, consistent with other Pro-Ject counterweights. The TPE insert helps to absorb micro-vibrations and reduce resonances transmitted through the tonearm, contributing to a quieter background and more detailed retrieval from the record groove.
