The Pro-Ject Debut PRO B is a belt-drive turntable that takes the acclaimed Debut PRO as its starting point and adds a complete True Balanced Connection upgrade. Introduced in 2024 as Pro-Ject's 30th anniversary model, the PRO B pairs the PRO's precision-machined chassis with the Pick it PRO Balanced cartridge and a dedicated mini-XLR phono output, making True Balanced playback accessible from a Moving Magnet source for the first time. It is available in Satin Black finish.
True Balanced Connection
Balanced audio connections are the norm in professional recording environments because they reject interference along the signal path. The Debut PRO B brings this capability to home vinyl playback by fitting the Pick it PRO Balanced cartridge, a Moving Magnet design developed with Ortofon that routes the full balanced signal directly through to the output. A dedicated mini-XLR phono output on the rear panel carries this signal to a compatible True Balanced phono stage, such as the Pro-Ject Phono Box S3 B or DS3 B, via the separately available True Balanced Connection cable. The result is a quieter, lower-noise signal path that was previously only achievable with much more costly MC-based setups. The PRO B remains fully compatible with conventional single-ended phono stages via standard RCA outputs.
Pick it PRO Balanced Cartridge
The Pick it PRO Balanced is co-developed with Ortofon and is the first Moving Magnet cartridge to offer a genuinely balanced output. A standard MM cartridge shares the shielding pin with the ground connection; the Pick it PRO Balanced separates them, enabling a true differential signal path from stylus tip to phono stage. The cartridge uses a polished elliptical diamond stylus and is factory-fitted and aligned to the Debut PRO B's tonearm.
Carbon-Aluminium Hybrid Tonearm
The 8.6-inch tonearm uses a one-piece carbon-aluminium sandwich construction. The carbon outer layer gives the arm high rigidity across the audio bandwidth, while the inner aluminium tube provides damping. The tonearm base allows continuous adjustment of both the azimuth and the vertical tracking angle, giving the owner the flexibility to optimise for different cartridges and platter mats. The precision CNC-machined tonearm bearing is finished in nickel, increasing rigidity while maintaining free, fluid movement.
Electronic Speed Control and Platter
An electronically regulated synchronous motor drives the platter via a belt, delivering stable speed accuracy. Speeds switch between 33 and 45 rpm via a toggle switch on the plinth, and a supplied round belt enables 78 rpm playback for shellac records. The die-cast aluminium platter is precision balanced at the factory and treated as anti-magnetic so that MC cartridges can be used without interference. An inner ring of TPE (thermoplastic elastomer) damps resonances and minimises wow and flutter. The platter features a notch at the label area, allowing the optional Record Puck PRO to press the record firmly against the playing surface for improved contact and stability.
Nickel-Finished Aluminium Chassis
All structural components are CNC milled from aluminium and given a nickel surface finish. The nickel process produces a hard, wear-resistant surface without resorting to plastics or materials that age and degrade sonically over time. The three adjustable feet allow levelling on any surface, and the chassis is designed to offer a broad upgrade path: the anti-magnetic platter is compatible with MC cartridges, the VTA adjustment accommodates cartridges of different heights, and the tonearm bearing design is derived from Pro-Ject's reference-level designs.
