The Pro-Ject DAC Box E is the entry-level model in Pro-Ject's acclaimed Box Design range of compact hi-fi electronics. Designed to bring genuine high-fidelity digital-to-analogue conversion to any system at an accessible price, it accepts digital sources via coaxial or optical connections and outputs an analogue signal ready for connection to any integrated amplifier or preamplifier.
Box Design Series
The DAC Box E sits at the foot of Pro-Ject's Box Design family, a range of slim, stackable components engineered in Austria. The series shares a consistent form factor so components can be neatly arranged together, making the DAC Box E a natural partner for Pro-Ject's CD Box, Stream Box, or Phono Box separates. The silver aluminium finish gives it a clean, understated look that suits both classic and contemporary systems.
Digital Inputs
Two digital inputs are provided: one coaxial S/PDIF on an RCA socket and one optical TOSlink. These are suitable for CD players, Blu-ray players, set-top boxes, computers with digital outputs, and network streamers. The optical input supports sample rates up to 96 kHz; the coaxial input extends to 192 kHz.
Supported Formats and DAC Performance
At its core is a Cirrus Logic CS4344 D/A converter chip, capable of processing PCM audio at up to 24-bit resolution and 192 kHz sampling rate via the coaxial input. Both inputs support standard CD-quality 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz, plus 96 kHz for high-resolution sources. The output stage uses special low-noise components and internal metal shielding to keep the signal clean. Gold-plated RCA output sockets minimise contact resistance and long-term corrosion.
Analogue Output and Connectivity
A single stereo pair of RCA line-level outputs delivers 0.7 Vrms, suitable for the auxiliary or line input of any integrated amplifier. The output impedance is kept deliberately low to avoid interference with cables or amplifier input stages. An outboard power supply is included in the box.
