The BT Box S2 HD is Pro-Ject Audio Systems's next-generation, high-definition Bluetooth audio receiver, sitting within the brand's compact S2 Box electronics range. It is designed to bridge the gap between modern Bluetooth streaming and a traditional Hi-Fi system, bringing wireless convenience without compromising on audio quality.
Wireless Performance
Built around Bluetooth 5.0 with the A2DP profile, the BT Box S2 HD supports three codecs: SBC, aptX, and the high-definition aptX-HD, which is capable of streaming audio at up to 24-bit/48kHz quality. The extended Bluetooth 5 bandwidth and range allow aptX-HD to maintain a crisp, detailed, and dynamic sound even when signal conditions are less than ideal, avoiding the compression artefacts associated with lower-quality codecs. The receiver can memorise up to eight different Bluetooth sources and pairs automatically in three to five seconds.
Analogue Output Stage
Drawing on Pro-Ject's decades of experience designing analogue electronics, the BT Box S2 HD features a dedicated high-quality analogue output buffer stage. This ensures that the signal delivered to your amplifier and loudspeakers is as robust and clean as possible, combining the convenience of Bluetooth with the integrity of a carefully engineered analogue output.
Connectivity
The rear panel provides both an RCA stereo analogue output and an optical S/PDIF (Toslink) digital output, offering flexibility for connection to a wide range of amplifiers and DACs. An external antenna is included to maximise wireless reception within a typical listening room of up to ten metres. Power is supplied via an included 5V outboard power supply, compatible with mains voltages from 100 to 240V.
Design and Build
The BT Box S2 HD is handmade in Europe and styled in the understated, compact aesthetic of Pro-Ject's S2 Box series. The Black finish features a matte black metal enclosure measuring 116 x 37 x 103mm, making it easy to integrate into any existing Hi-Fi setup without drawing attention. A volume control and a dedicated Pair button on the front panel keep operation straightforward.
