The BT Box E HD sits within Pro-Ject's E-Line electronics range, positioned as the accessible entry point to high-definition Bluetooth streaming. Where many budget Bluetooth receivers limit you to the compressed SBC codec, the BT Box E HD supports aptX and aptX HD alongside SBC, enabling wireless transmission at resolutions up to 24-bit/48 kHz from a compatible smartphone, tablet, or computer. It is designed to add Bluetooth connectivity to an existing hi-fi system without compromising on audio quality.
Connectivity
The BT Box E HD outputs audio via both an analogue stereo RCA pair and a digital optical (Toslink) output. Crucially, these outputs are switchable, so you can connect the unit simultaneously to an amplifier's analogue input and a DAC's optical input and select between them as needed. The analogue output delivers a nominal 2 Vrms signal level, which is compatible with the line-level inputs found on integrated amplifiers and AV receivers.
Bluetooth Performance
Bluetooth 5.0 is used throughout, with the A2DP profile for high-quality stereo audio. The effective working range is up to 10 metres when in direct line of sight. Pairing is fast, typically completing in three to five seconds, and the internal memory stores up to eight different paired devices, so multiple family members can connect their own phones or tablets without needing to repair each time.
Design and Power
The BT Box E HD uses the characteristic Pro-Ject E-Line enclosure: a compact, gloss-finish case measuring 120 x 32 x 100mm and weighing just 250g without the power supply. It is supplied with an outboard 18V DC power supply rated for 220-240V, 50-60Hz mains, suitable for UK use. Standby power consumption is under 1 watt. The Black version features a gloss black finish.
System Pairing
For turntable users who want to add wireless streaming to a record player, Pro-Ject's Phono Box E BT5 phono preamplifier pairs naturally with the BT Box E HD, transmitting the turntable's signal wirelessly to the receiver.
