The Pro-Ject A1.2 sits within the brand's Automat line, a range designed to bring Pro-Ject's audiophile philosophy to listeners who want the convenience of a fully automatic turntable without sacrificing sound quality. Building on the success of the original A1, the A1.2 receives an updated drive system and a new damped aluminium platter.
Automatic Convenience, Audiophile Roots
The automatic drive mechanism at the heart of the A1.2 is handmade in Germany by a specialist manufacturer with decades of experience in automatic turntable mechanisms, while final assembly takes place in the Czech Republic. The result is a turntable that starts, plays, and stops automatically, lifting the stylus and switching off the motor at the end of a side. This makes the A1.2 equally suitable for those new to vinyl and for experienced listeners who simply prefer the hands-off convenience of an automatic design.
Tonearm and Cartridge
The A1.2 features an 8.3-inch ultra-light-mass aluminium tonearm. This low-mass design is paired with the Ortofon OM 10 cartridge, a combination that delivers fast transient response and precise microdynamics. Tracking force and anti-skating are factory pre-adjusted at the Pro-Ject facility, making the A1.2 genuinely plug-and-play: unpack, connect, and play a record within minutes. No set-up tools or alignment gauges are required.
Speed and Connectivity
Electronic speed change allows the user to switch between 33 and 45 RPM at the press of a button, with no need to reposition the belt. A built-in phono preamplifier means the A1.2 can connect directly to any line-level input, and the phono stage can be switched off when an external phono stage is preferred. The included Connect it E phono cable is a semi-balanced, low-capacitance design with superior shielding, ensuring a clean signal path to the amplifier.
In the Box
The A1.2 is supplied with a 15V DC power supply, a dust cover, a 7-inch single adapter, a felt mat, and the Connect it E phono cable.
