The Pro-Ject 2 Xperience SB S-Shape sits within Pro-Ject’s mid-range turntable lineup, above the Debut and T-series entry-level models but below the flagship Xtension and Signature designs. Where the standard 2 Xperience SB uses a 9″ carbon fibre Evolution tonearm, the S-Shape variant substitutes a 9″ S-Shape aluminium tonearm with a detachable headshell — a configuration that appeals to vinyl enthusiasts who swap cartridges to suit different recordings or musical genres.
S-Shape Tonearm
The tonearm is constructed from a special alloy of aluminium chosen for its high internal damping properties, which reduces resonance within the arm tube. The bearing design uses precision vertical race bearings and rigidly mounted, adjustable horizontal ball bearings. A rotational anti-skating mechanism provides consistent bias compensation across the record surface. The detachable headshell accepts all cartridges with standard half-inch mounting holes and enables rapid cartridge changes without the need for realignment each time. The supplied counterweight (no. 180) accommodates cartridges weighing 3–9 g, with optional counterweights available for heavier cartridges up to 33 g.
Plinth and Platter
The plinth is machined from MDF using a non-resonant construction technique and is available in seven finishes: mahogany, olive, walnut, eucalyptus, palisander, high-gloss piano black, and high-gloss white. The 300 mm sandwich platter combines an MDF core with a vinyl top layer that serves as an integrated mat — no separate mat is required. A precision diamond-cut, lightweight record clamp screws down onto the centre spindle to eliminate record vibration and suppress platter bearing rumble.
Motor and Speed Control
The perimeter belt drive system uses a precision DC motor fed by an external 15 V power supply. Built-in electronic speed control handles switching between 33 and 45 RPM via a single button on the plinth, which also functions as an AC generator for the motor to deliver a clean, stable drive signal. The turntable achieves wow and flutter of ±0.08% and speed drift of ±0.5%.
Setup and Accessories
The turntable ships with an acrylic dust cover, screw-on record clamp, three adjustable tip-toe feet with anti-scratch cups, a 45 RPM single adapter, connection cable, and a universal 15 V / 800 mA power supply. VTA (vertical tracking angle) is adjustable at the tonearm base.
