The Pro-Ject 105g Counterweight (182) is a replacement counterweight for Pro-Ject turntable tonearms, specifically designed for use with the Pro-Ject Classic Tonearm as fitted to the Pro-Ject The Classic EVO turntable. Counterweights are used to set the tracking force of the cartridge, and replacing the standard counterweight allows the tonearm to be correctly balanced with cartridges of different weights.
Compatibility and Purpose
Each Pro-Ject replacement counterweight is identified by a three-digit code stamped on the body; this unit carries the code 182 and weighs 105g. The weight of the counterweight determines the range of cartridge weights it can support: a heavier counterweight is able to balance lighter cartridges, while a lighter counterweight is needed for heavier cartridges. Selecting the correct counterweight ensures the counterweight body sits close to the tonearm bearing when the tracking force is set correctly, which minimises the risk of micro-vibration from a rearward-displaced counterweight.
Installation
The counterweight is fitted to the rear of the tonearm tube. Once installed, stylus tracking force is adjusted by rotating the counterweight along the tube. Pro-Ject recommends checking and re-setting tracking force and stylus alignment whenever a cartridge or counterweight is changed.
