The Optoma UHZ65LV sits within Optoma's premium 4K UHD laser home cinema range, positioned as the high-brightness model designed specifically for rooms where ambient light cannot be fully controlled. With 5,000 lumens from its laser phosphor light source, it delivers the kind of brightness that makes daytime viewing practical without sacrificing the contrast performance that serious home cinema enthusiasts demand.

Laser Light Source

The UHZ65LV uses a laser phosphor illumination system rather than a traditional UHP lamp. Light from blue laser diodes passes through a phosphor wheel to create yellow light, which is then split into red and green using a colour wheel to produce the full RGB spectrum. This approach delivers several practical advantages over lamp-based projection: instant on and off with no warm-up or cool-down period, consistent brightness throughout the light source's lifespan, and a rated life of up to 30,000 hours. At typical usage levels, that translates to years of use before any degradation becomes noticeable.

4K UHD Resolution and HDR

The UHZ65LV uses Texas Instruments' XPR (eXpanded Pixel Resolution) technology on a 0.66-inch DLP chip to deliver CTA-approved True 4K UHD resolution, projecting 8.3 million discrete on-screen pixels at 3840 x 2160. This is the full 4K pixel count rather than the 4.1 million pixels delivered by some competing technologies.

HDR support covers both HDR10 and Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG), the latter being particularly relevant for UK viewers as it is the HDR format used by BBC iPlayer and other broadcast services. The projector's 2,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio helps to preserve shadow detail and highlight punch in HDR content, while Optoma's Amazing Colour technology aims to reproduce the Rec.709 colour gamut accurately for faithful cinematic colour reproduction.

PureMotion Frame Interpolation

The UHZ65LV includes Optoma's PureMotion processing, a frame-interpolation system designed to eliminate motion blur and image judder in fast-moving content. This is particularly beneficial for live sports and action sequences where rapid on-screen movement can otherwise produce visible artefacts on single-chip DLP projectors.

Installation Flexibility

A 1.6x manual zoom lens with a throw ratio of 1.39:1 to 2.22:1 provides a wide range of screen sizes from 27 inches to 302 inches diagonal, with projection distances from 1.3m to 9.3m. Vertical lens shift simplifies ceiling mounting and shelf placement by allowing the image to be repositioned without introducing keystone distortion. A 12V trigger output enables automatic screen deployment when the projector powers on.

Connectivity

The rear panel provides two HDMI inputs: one HDMI 2.0 for 4K sources and one HDMI 1.4a with MHL and 3D support. Additional connections include VGA for legacy PC sources, RS-232C for control system integration, and an RJ-45 LAN port for network management. The projector is also Full 3D capable using DLP Link active shutter glasses, which are sold separately.
