The Optoma UHD38 is a high-brightness 4K UHD DLP projector for gamers and home cinema enthusiasts who want large-screen performance without compromising on responsiveness. It delivers CTA-certified True 4K UHD resolution at 4,000 lumens — enough output to hold an image in a well-lit room — combined with a 240Hz refresh rate and input lag as low as 4.2ms in Enhanced Gaming Mode.
4K UHD with DLP Clarity
The UHD38 uses DLP projection technology to produce Optoma's CTA (Consumer Technology Association) approved True 4K UHD resolution, rendering 8.3 million individual pixels on screen. This is four times the detail of Full HD and twice that of competing projection technologies which deliver 4.1 million pixels. The result is sharper, more life-like images with richer colour depth, letting you sit closer to the screen for a more immersive experience with a picture up to 300” in size.
The projector supports both High Dynamic Range (HDR) and Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) for improved contrast and highlight detail, alongside Full 3D capability for compatible content.
Gaming Performance
Enhanced Gaming Mode optimises the UHD38's processing pipeline to reduce input lag to as little as 4.2ms — a critical figure for competitive gaming where response time directly affects performance. Combined with a high refresh rate of 240Hz, the projector handles fast-moving action without motion blur, making it equally at home with high-frame-rate gaming as with broadcast sport and film.
Brightness and Colour
At 4,000 lumens, the UHD38 is bright enough to deliver a vivid image in living spaces that cannot be fully darkened — an important consideration for anyone wanting to use a projector for daytime viewing of TV shows or sports alongside gaming. The projector reproduces the Rec.709 colour gamut, the international HDTV standard that ensures cinematic colour accuracy exactly as the director intended. For gaming and animated content, a more saturated mode is available for a punchier, vivid appearance. Contrast is rated at 1,000,000:1.
Connectivity
Two HDMI 2.0 inputs allow simultaneous connection of two sources — a games console alongside a Blu-ray player or streaming device, for example — without needing to swap cables. The HDMI ports also accept HDMI dongles such as the Google Chromecast™, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV™, or Roku® stick, effectively turning the UHD38 into a smart projector without requiring a separate media player.
Optics and Installation
The UHD38 includes both vertical keystone correction and vertical lens shift to simplify placement flexibility. The lamp is rated at 15,000 hours in eco mode, reducing running costs over the projector's lifetime. Standby power consumption is 0.5W.
