The Optoma CinemaX P2 is an ultra short throw 4K UHD laser projector designed to deliver a large-screen cinema image from just centimetres away from the wall. Positioned at the top of Optoma's CinemaX consumer range, it combines a laser light source with DLP 4K UHD projection, a built-in Dolby Digital soundbar, and smart platform features in a low-profile chassis intended to sit beneath a screen rather than hang from the ceiling.
Projection & Display Technology
The CinemaX P2 uses Texas Instruments DLP technology to deliver CTA-certified True 4K UHD resolution — 8.3 million addressable pixels, four times the pixel count of 1080p. The ultra short throw lens allows a 100-inch image to be projected from as little as 25cm distance from the wall, eliminating the cable runs and installation complexity of a ceiling-mounted projector while keeping ambient light shadows off the screen.
Brightness is rated at 3,000 ANSI lumens, and the dynamic contrast ratio is specified at 2,000,000:1. The laser light source delivers consistent output over its rated life with instant on and off, no warm-up period, and no lamp replacement costs. Optoma note that perceived brightness from laser illumination can be up to twice that of an equivalent lamp-based lumen rating.
Geometry adjustment is provided by vertical keystone correction and vertical lens shift. The P2 supports genuine 3D content from 3D Blu-ray players, broadcast sources, and current-generation games consoles.
Colour & HDR Performance
The CinemaX P2 covers an extensive portion of the DCI-P3 colour gamut — the wider colour space used in digital cinema — as well as full Rec.709 coverage for accurate reproduction of HDTV-mastered content. HDR is supported for increased detail and depth in compatible content, and HLG (Hybrid Log-Gamma) is supported via USB for broadcast HDR sources. PureMotion frame-interpolation processing is included to reduce motion blur and image judder on fast-moving content.
Integrated Sound
The lower fascia of the CinemaX P2 houses an integrated soundbar with Dolby Digital 2.0 decoding. The enclosure uses a vented design with precision-tuned ports to extend bass performance. While the built-in audio is intended for casual use rather than as a primary cinema audio system, it allows a functioning setup without an external sound system.
Smart Features & Connectivity
The CinemaX P2 includes a smart platform with built-in streaming applications and a media player for USB-connected storage. Wireless screen mirroring is supported from Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and ChromeOS devices, with the companion app also functioning as a wireless mouse and keyboard for projector control. Voice control is supported. Standby power consumption is 0.5W.
