The Marantz MODEL 30 sits at the top of Marantz's current two-channel integrated amplifier range, above the PM6007 and below the dedicated pre/power separates. Designed and manufactured in Japan, it marks the beginning of Marantz's contemporary design language — a departure from the champagne-gold era into a modernised industrial aesthetic that draws on the brand's heritage from the 1950s, 60s and 70s.
Amplification and Topology
The MODEL 30 uses a Class D output stage built around a custom-specified Hypex module, delivering 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms and doubling to 200 watts into 4 ohms. Marantz applies its current feedback topology throughout the signal path, a design approach that prioritises speed and bandwidth over the voltage feedback method used in most integrated amplifiers. The result is a wide frequency response of 5 Hz to 50 kHz and a damping factor of 500, giving the amplifier firm control over connected loudspeakers.
HDAM Preamplifier Stage
The preamplifier section is fully discrete, using Marantz's proprietary HDAM (Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module) technology in SA3 and SA2 configurations. These are surface-mount discrete circuit modules that replace conventional operational amplifiers, assembled from hand-selected components chosen for their contribution to signal purity. The preamplifier stage runs from a separate linear drive power supply to isolate it from the output section, while the main power supply uses a switch-mode (SMPS) design for the power amplifier. A symmetric PCB layout with copper block shielding further reduces interference between left and right channels.
Phono Stage
The MODEL 30 includes a built-in Marantz Musical Premium phono equaliser supporting both moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) cartridges. MM sensitivity is rated at 2.3 mV with a 39 kΩ input impedance, while MC sensitivity is 250 µV. Three MC loading positions (Low, Mid, High) are selectable from the front panel, making the MODEL 30 a particularly capable partner for vinyl playback without requiring an external phono stage.
Connectivity and Control
Six analogue RCA inputs are provided (CD, Tuner, Line 1, Line 2, Recorder, and Phono), along with a single audio output, a pre-out for connecting an external power amplifier, and a power amp direct input for use as a standalone power amplifier. All signal connectors are gold-plated. A 6.35 mm headphone output is fitted to the front panel. The MODEL 30 has no digital inputs, no Bluetooth, and no network streaming — it is a purely analogue design. A D-Bus connection enables system remote control when paired with other compatible Marantz components such as the SACD 30n.
Build and Design
The chassis features a metal front panel with Marantz's signature porthole OLED display at centre, flanked by textured aluminium side panels. The volume knob, input selector, bass, treble, and balance controls are arranged symmetrically across the fascia. A double-layer bottom plate adds structural rigidity and reduces vibration. The unit measures 443 × 431 × 130 mm (W × D × H) and weighs 14.8 kg. It is available in Black and Silver Gold finishes.
