The KEF Ventura 5 is a weatherproof two-way outdoor speaker for patios, pool areas, gardens and boats, supplied as a pair with ratcheting mounting brackets included. It is IP65 certified, salt spray tested and rated for an operating range of -40 to +70°C, so it can be installed permanently outside and left there through every season. It is the smaller of the two current Ventura models, sitting below the 160mm Ventura 6. KEF offers the Ventura 5 in Black and White; this listing is for the Black finish.
Construction and Weatherproofing
The sealed enclosure is made from ABS and finished with a proprietary plating and powder coating process for UV protection. Every external component is designed for long-term outdoor exposure: the grille and mounting bracket are aluminium, while all fasteners use stainless steel and brass to resist corrosion and discolouration. KEF subjected the Ventura 5 to 1,200 hours of direct salt spray testing, and the speaker carries independent test laboratory IP65 certification, confirming it is sealed against dust and water ingress.
Driver Technology
A 25mm anodised aluminium tweeter handles high frequencies. It is cooled by ferro-fluid, which improves its thermal handling capacity and reliability so it can run at sustained high levels; useful outdoors, where speakers are often driven harder to overcome ambient noise. A 130mm low-frequency driver covers the rest of the range, crossed over to the tweeter at 3.8kHz. KEF rates the frequency response at 74Hz to 20kHz (±6dB), extending to 58Hz at -10dB, with 89dB sensitivity, 6 Ohm nominal impedance and a maximum output of 103dB. It is designed for amplifiers of 10 to 100W, with a 60Hz high-pass filter recommended.
Mounting and Installation
The included ratcheting aluminium bracket allows each speaker to be rotated through 180° and supports both vertical and horizontal mounting, so the pair can be aimed precisely after installation. The square KEF logo on the grille rotates in 90° increments, so it always reads correctly whichever way the speaker is mounted. For custom installations, ¼-20 brass threaded inserts on the enclosure accept many aftermarket mounting systems directly.
